CHAIRMAN LEWIS STATEMENT ON ROB PORTMAN AS NEW OMB DIRECTOR

April 18th, 2006 - -
Washington, D.C. – House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA) issued the following statement today on the Administration’s decision to nominate U.S Trade Representative Robert Portman to be the next Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

I commend the Administration’s choice of Rob Portman as the next Director of the Office of Management and Budget.  Rob is a gifted legislator, skilled administrator and a dedicated fiscal conservative.  Last year, Congress held non-security discretionary spending below the previous year’s level, eliminated 53 programs and reduced spending on earmarks by nearly $3 billion.  Rob will be a strong ally as we seek to build on this success in the coming appropriations process.”
