April 18th, 2006 - - Washington, D.C. – House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA) issued the following statement today on the Administration’s decision to nominate U.S Trade Representative Robert Portman to be the next Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
“I commend the Administration’s choice of Rob Portman as the next Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Rob is a gifted legislator, skilled administrator and a dedicated fiscal conservative. Last year, Congress held non-security discretionary spending below the previous year’s level, eliminated 53 programs and reduced spending on earmarks by nearly $3 billion. Rob will be a strong ally as we seek to build on this success in the coming appropriations process.”
