The Challenge

volunteering at the Seattle veterans hospital during the Vietnam War
that I would do everything I could to help those individuals who sacrificed
for our country. Now that I'm in a position to really make a difference,
I will continue to make sure veterans get the services and benefits
they deserve."

Senator Murray is:
- The daughter of a disabled World War II veteran
- The first woman to serve on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee;
- Committed to helping Washington State's 700,000 veterans.
Senator Murray has:
- Helped fund and open the Tahoma National Cemetery
- Worked to ensure that all veterans can receive military funeral
honors
- Pressed the VA to improve services
- Fought to recognize America's veterans.
Senator Murray was:
- Named “Person of the Year”
by Washington’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (2004)
- Named "Legislator of the Year" by the Vietnam Veterans
of America (1998)
- Honored by the American Ex-Prisoners of War and other veterans
organizations.
