Ron Tours Employment and Job Training Center in Redmond

June 2004

Redmond, Ore. -- Ron took a tour of the Manufacturing & Applied Technology Center at a One Stop Career Center in Redmond to view training equipment and hear success stories from people who have received assistance from the facility.

One Stop Career Centers are primarily funded by the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) to help increase employment, job retention and earnings. Funding under the law helped purchase equipment and funds job training at the One Stop Career Center in Redmond. The WIA is currently going through the federal appropriations process for the next fiscal year. Wyden, a long-time advocate for increased funding and local flexibility for the WIA, is part of a bipartisan effort in the U.S. Senate to fully fund the program.

"Dollar for dollar, I think workforce training is one of the best investments we can make in our economic future. People come out of these programs, and their income goes up."
-- U.S. Senator Ron Wyden.

Prior to the tour, Ron participated in a roundtable discussion (pictured right) with partners and participants in the program, including local businesses who have used the One Stop Center to find and hire new employees, and individuals who have used the One Stop Center to get training and find employment.
