Ron Tours Transportation Portals to
Lewis and Clark Sites in Astoria

July 2004

Astoria, Ore. -- With tourism to Fort Clatsop and other Lewis and Clark sites in and near Astoria expected to sharply increase as the bicentennial approaches, it is vital for the area to have adequate transportation alternatives in place. Ron worked with local officials and the Congressional delegation to secure federal funding for the Astoria Transit Center, busses and Netul Landing, the gateway to Fort Clatsop. He also helped clear administrative roadblocks to enable the Explorer Train to begin service.

Ron and U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell, Gordon Smith and Patty Murray are also working to pass the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park Act of 2004, which will expand and rename the Fort Clatsop National Memorial. The sites to be added to the newly named park will help bicentennial visitors fully understand the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery’s historic trip.
