No Child Left Behind a big topic at Lake County Town Hall Meeting

April 2005

Lakeview, OR – Several people at the Lake County Town Hall Meeting, including Lakeview fourth-grade student Rose McManmon, asked Ron about the federal No Child Left Behind law. Rose was particularly concerned with the extra testing that has resulted because of the law and the time that testing takes away from other classroom activities.

Ron thanked Rose for having the courage to speak up and agreed that many of the requirements under the law amount to “bureaucratic water torture.” He also discussed his work to secure changes to the law, and emphasized that more changes and more funding are needed for a law that has essentially become an unfunded mandate.

Ron also fielded a number of questions on many other topics, including gas prices, health care, the scourge of methamphetamine, and Social Security.
