STEARNS BEING RECOGNIZED FOR HIS SUPPORT OF THE "KEEP ALACHUA COUNTY BEAUTIFUL" CAMPAIGN

WASHINGTON, OCT. 13, 2006 - Congressman Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala) is receiving an award from "Keep Alachua County Beautiful" for his support of the group's effort to beautify Alachua County.  "Keep Alachua County Beautiful" is part of the nationwide "Keep America Beautiful" effort.  The group's mission is to protect, preserve, and improve the quality of life in Alachua County, Florida, through education, communication, and grassroots activities.  The award will be presented during a luncheon today in Gainesville at the Hilton on 34th Street, which is hosting a statewide workshop on beautification. Joan Stearns, the congressman's wife, will accept the award.

"I am honored to receive this award from 'Keep Alachua County Beautiful' and I am proud of my support for this group's effort to protect and improve Alachua County," said Stearns.  "I am working with the local government on obtaining federal funding for a regional ground-water monitoring network, in Alachua County.  In addition, I secured $100,000 for the Heart of Florida Coalition, which includes many groups that have the passion and the influence to help keep Alachua beautiful.
