CURRENT POLICIES ARE PRODUCING CONTINUED ECONOMIC GROWTH

SECOND QUARTER ECONOMIC GROWTH REVISED UPWARD FROM 2.5 TO 2.9 PERCENT

WASHINGTON, AUG. 30, 2006 --      "The Bureau of Economic Analysis has revised upward our nation's economic growth in the second quarter from 2.5 to 2.9 percent," stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala).  "This marks the 19th consecutive quarter of economic growth, an expansion that produced 1.7 million jobs over the last 12 months.  The tax relief we enacted is working, giving the American people more resources to innovate, save, and work."

This economy has generated 5.5 million jobs since August of 2003, producing an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent.  Added Stearns,  "Here in Florida, our unemployment rate is 3.3 percent, well below the national average.  By extending expiring tax relief provisions, we also can extend this long period of economic growth."
