WASHINGTON, SEPT. 13, 2006 - "Florida is home to nearly 2 million veterans, and more arrive each day," stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "It is vital that we expand and enhance the medical facilities serving our veterans, and I am pleased to join in approving legislation that does just that." The House today approved H.R. 5815, the VA Medical Facility Authorization Act, with authorizes $4.2 billion over 5 years for construction and renovation of VA medical facilities.
Added Stearns, "H.R. 5815 includes $85.2 million to improve patient privacy at the Gainesville VA Medical Center, and $377.7 million for a new VA hospital in Orlando that is expected to be adjacent to the University of Central Florida to promote the exchange of medical knowledge. I have supported these projects for years, and I am pleased to see Congress authorize their funding."
