Washington, Dec. 15, 2005 -- "Progress continues in Iraq, underscored by the large turnout in today's election to choose a permanent government. Voters overwhelmed the polling stations forcing the election to be extended for another hour. Preliminary figures indicate 11 million Iraqis voted today, where 8 million voted in January and 10 million in October. We must maintain our support for Iraq in combating the terrorists, in establishing a capable Iraqi security system, and in building a working government. Our exit strategy is establishing a stable Iraq allied with us in the War on Terror."
