STARK CONGRATULATES ART CONTEST WINNER
Fremont Resident Jeremy Nguyen Wins Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON –U.S. Representative Pete Stark (D-CA) yesterday hosted Moreau Catholic High School student Jeremy Nguyen, winner of the 25th Annual Congressional Arts Competition for California’s Thirteenth Congressional District. Nguyen’s painting, titled “The Point,” was selected in a districtwide competition and is currently on display in the hallway between the Cannon House Office building and the United States Capitol in Washington, DC.

“I congratulate Jeremy for winning the Congressional Arts Competition,” said Representative Stark. “His wonderfully abstract and colorful painting is sure to draw the attention and admiration of Congress’ many visitors. I thank our fine arts teachers for continuing to educate and inspire not only Jeremy, but all our children. Though I don’t envy the judges who had to choose among the many quality submissions received, I’m glad Jeremy is likely to take advantage of the Artistic Honors Scholarship available to contest winners interested in attending the Savannah College of Art and Design.”

Students from high schools throughout Congressman Stark’s Congressional District submitted entries. Members of the area’s fine arts community served as judges and selected Jeremy the winner. The competition was hosted at the San Leandro Museum and Art Gallery.

“I’m glad I got to visit Washington with my family,” said Jeremy. “I knew he was interested in the arts at a very young age,” added his mom, Dana Nguyen. “When Jeremy cried at a young age, I could always get him to quiet down by giving him a pen and paper to draw on.”

In prior summers, Jeremy has taken classes on movie animation and comic book illustration at San Francisco’s Academy of Art University. After graduating from high school next year, he hopes to attend the Savannah College of Arts and Design. The College gives all winners of the Congressional Arts Competition a scholarship of $3,000 a year.
