STARK ATTACKS REPUBLICANS FOR STEALING FROM THE POOR AND GIVING TO THE RICH
Robin Hood in Reverse

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Representative Pete Stark (D-CA), one of two House Democrats appointed to the tax reconciliation conference committee, issued the following statement in opposition to H.R. 4297, the tax reconciliation conference report.

“Yet again, President Bush and Republicans in Congress are stealing from the poor to give to the rich,” said Representative Stark. “Does their shame know no bounds? The Republican tax bill gives people who make over $10 million a year a capital gains and dividends tax break of about $500,000 a year. But working families who make under $50,000 will get a whopping $10.“

“Last fall, Republicans underfunded No Child Left Behind and cut Medicaid, student loans and food stamps. Rather than right past wrongs, Republicans now choose to give $70 billion to the wealthiest Americans. That’s why ‘voodoo economics’ will cause voters to cast a curse on Republicans this November,” concluded Representative Stark.
