Presidential Greetings

If you are a resident of the 5th Congressional District of South Carolina, my office can assist you in obtaining a special recognition from the White House to commemorate a major milestone in the life of someone close to you.

White House Greetings Guidelines

Please review the following guidelines prepared by the White House Greetings Office carefully prior to submitting your request. Requests that do not comply with these guidelines or do not contain sufficient information will not be fulfilled.

1. U.S. Citizens Only. The White House will send greetings to United States citizens only, for special occasions as outlined below.

2. Advance Notice Required. Your request must be received six (6) weeks in advance of the event date. We make every effort to honor every request, but we cannot guarantee a greeting if this guideline is not met. (*Greetings are not sent after the event date, except for wedding congratulations and newborn acknowledgments.)

3. Birthday Greeting. A card will be sent only to an individual who is celebrating their 80th (or above) birthday.

4. Wedding Anniversary Greeting. An Anniversary card will be sent only to couples who are celebrating their 50th (or above) wedding anniversary.

5. Other Greetings. A limited number of special occasion cards may be sent for important events as listed below:

  • Wedding (send your request after the event)
  • Baby's Birth (must be born during the George W. Bush Administration; send request only after baby's birth)
  • Eagle Scout Award
  • Girl Scout Gold Award

6. Required Information. Please include the following in your request:

  • name and home address of honoree(s)
  • form of address (Mr., Ms., Mrs., Dr., Miss, etc.)
  • exact date of occasion (month, day, year)
  • age (birthdays) or number of years of marriage (anniversaries)
  • Wedding (Include couple's married names and current or new address)
  • Baby's Birth (Include baby's date of birth and full names and address of baby and parents)
  • your (the requestor's) name and daytime phone number

You may submit your White House greeting request by web form, mail, or fax:

  • Web Form to submit request online

  • Mail:
    Congressman John Spratt
    Attn: PRESIDENTIAL GREETING REQUEST
    1401 Longworth Building
    Washington, DC 20515
  • Fax: 202-225-0464

Please Note:

When to expect the greeting:

In most cases, greetings will be mailed from the White House approximately ten (10) days prior to the event.

NOTE: Because the language in the cards is not appropriate for a belated event, the White House policy is not to send cards more than one month after an event.
