Internships

Internships are an exciting and informative way to learn about the legislative process and how a Congressional office operates. My Washington and Rock Hill offices offer internship opportunities throughout the year.

What is required to be an intern?

At least one year of college, and the ability to interact and communicate well with people in a busy and sometimes stressful environment. Excellent writing skills are a plus.

You are also expected to be responsible and report to work on time and dress appropriately. Your office schedule will be worked out with the internship coordinator prior to the start of your internship.

Preference is given to applicants who are from the 5th Congressional District of South Carolina.

What are the duties of an intern?

Clerical - Primarily you will open, sort, and distribute mail as well as assist with answering the telephones and performing other various duties which help the office function effectively.

Legislative Support - In Washington, you may be asked to attend briefings, hearings or committee mark-ups, as well as assist legislative staffers with responding to constituent mail and performing legislative duties.

Constituent Services - In both offices, but primarily Rock Hill, you may handle constituent information requests such as contacting a federal agency or obtaining general information on their behalf.
