U.S. SEN. WAYNE ALLARD ANNOUNCES $2.5 MILLION GRANT FOR PAGOSA SPRINGS SENIORS HOUSING
|
|
November 1st, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) announced today that the Housing Solutions for the Southwest will receive more than $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a new low-income senior housing complex in Pagosa Springs.
“This affordable housing for Colorado seniors will help those that have very limited financial resources,” said Allard, Chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation. “I appreciate the Housing Solutions for the Southwest for its effort to provide seniors in Pagosa Springs with an affordable place to call home.”
The $2,515,600 grant will be used to construct a 20-unit, two-story building for 19 low-income elderly residents and a resident manager. The site for this project is six blocks from an existing Senior Center and is located near a grocery story and the downtown area, which offers shopping and a variety of restaurants and commercial services.
In addition, there is a public bus stop and a senior bus service, which is available four or five times per day, to take the residents to medical facilities and to adjoining towns for other services.
This federal funding was acquired through HUD’s Section 202 Program, which provides grants to non-profits to acquire, build or rehabilitate rental properties for senior citizens.
