U.S. SEN. WAYNE ALLARD ANNOUNCES $5.8 MILLION GRANT FOR LONGMONT SENIORS HOUSING

November 1st, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) announced today that the Longmont Housing Development Corporation will receive more than $5.8 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a new low-income senior housing complex.

“This affordable housing for Colorado seniors will help those that have very limited financial resources,” said Allard, Chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation. “I appreciate the Longmont Housing Development Corporation for its effort to provide seniors in Longmont with an affordable place to call home.”

The $5,884,200 grant will be used to construct a 50-unit, three-story building for 49 low-income elderly residents and a resident manager. The design of the building will be environmentally friendly, incorporating wind and solar energy to enhance the building’s performance.

Bus service is available within one block of the site, and shopping, restaurants, a movie theater and the Senior Center are located within a three-mile radius. A service coordinator will be available to assist the residents in accessing a variety of services.

This federal funding was acquired through HUD’s Section 202 Program, which provides grants to non-profits to acquire, build or rehabilitate rental properties for senior citizens.
