Pocatello, Rexburg Economic
Development Funds Released

Washington, D.C.  -  Congressman Mike Simpson today announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development is releasing federal funds secured through the Congressional Appropriations process to Pocatello and Rexburg. Simpson secured $99,000 for renovations to the Pocatello Senior Center and $346,500 for Rexburg’s Greenways Redevelopment Project.

“It is great to see these critical community funds being released to Pocatello and Rexburg,” said Simpson. “Both of these projects are an excellent use of economic development funding and will help meet the needs of these important Idaho communities.”

In Pocatello, the funding will be used to make repairs to the Senior Center and purchase new equipment for the estimated 1,500 people who use the facility. In Rexburg, the funding will be used to provide pedestrian and wheelchair access to trails along the river, construction of curbs, gutters and parking spaces along the river, construction of recreational facilities including tennis courts, and fencing for public safety.

Simpson worked with Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase and Rexburg Mayor Shawn Larsen to put the projects together and seek there approval in Congress. “Both Mayor Chase and Mayor Larsen should be commended for their dedication to their communities and advocacy for these projects. Without their strong input and cooperation these projects would not have been possible,” Simpson said.

Simpson is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and obtained the funding as part of the FY2006 Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act. Idaho Senator Larry Craig is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and worked with Simpson to secure the funding.
