Congressman Bill Shuster was first elected in May of
2001 to serve in the House of Representatives from the
Ninth District of Pennsylvania. He represents
fifteen counties in central and western Pennsylvania.
Bill was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and grew up
on his family's farm in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Everett High School, Bill went on
to Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he
earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and in
History. He went on to attend American University
where he received his Masters of Business
Administration.
In Congress he serves on the Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee and is Chairman of the
Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings
and Emergency Management. Shuster is also a member of
the Armed Services Committee, which has jurisdiction
over defense and military issues, and serves on the
Small Business Committee. In addition to these
committee assignments, Bill is a member of the National
Rifle Association, the National Federation of
Independent Businesses and the Rural Health Care
Coalition.
He lives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, with his wife
and two children.
