Shuster Reiterates Support for Troops, Demands Kerry Apologize for Offensive Comments

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster reiterated his support for our military today and demanded Sen. John Kerry apologize for his disrespectful and offensive comments. Shuster joined fellow Republicans today in signing a letter to Sen. Kerry, insisting he apologize for his irresponsible comments about our military serving in Iraq.

Sen. Kerry said yesterday that students should get an education to avoid being “stuck in Iraq.” He has since refused to apologize for his comments. Shuster has weighed in on why Sen. Kerry is off the mark and owes the members of the U.S. military an apology.

“Our men and women in uniform are truly America’s finest and they are proud to serve in Iraq,” said Shuster, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “To suggest that they are uneducated is insulting and uninformed. Our military is the most qualified in U.S. history, with more than 97% holding a high school degree or higher and more than 213,000 holding a college degree or higher. It is unacceptable that Sen. Kerry would undermine their efforts with such disrespectful and politically-motivated comments.

“This clearly illustrates the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Sen. Kerry and his fellow Democrats have made it clear time and time again that they not only refuse to support the war effort, but they also refuse to support our troops. I have joined with other Republican members of Congress in signing a letter to Sen. Kerry today, asking him to apologize to our men and women in uniform for his offensive comments. We are asking him to do the right thing and to offer our military men and women the respect and admiration they deserve.”
