Shays Statement on Foley Matter

Bridgeport, CT – Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT) issued the following statement regarding the Foley matter:

“If there is any leader - Republican or Democrat - that knew or should have known about Mark Foley's behavior, he or she should step down from leadership. I will not vote for any leader who knew or should have known about Mark Foley’s conduct.

“The FBI needs to interview people from both sides of the aisle thoroughly and conclude its investigation quickly. If anyone has committed a crime, he or she needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“In addition, we need to fully re-examine the page program from top to bottom to ensure Congressional pages are safe and have a top-notch learning experience.

“The integrity of Congress is on the line.”
