Washington, D.C., July 29th – Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, secured funding to support a new Falls Church transportation Center in the “Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU),” (H.R. 3). The project survived the House-Senate Conference Committee and gained final passage with bipartisan support on a 412-8 vote.
The Congressman obtained $1,672,000 in the transportation bill for the Falls Church Intermodal Transportation Station, which will be located in the City’s downtown commercial district. The facility would link multiple modes of transportation providing convenient access and transfer facilities for regional Metrobus, the George bus system, pedestrians, bicyclists, carpools, commuter parking, taxicabs and shuttles to both National and Dulles airports.
Plans for the Intermodal Transportation Station include 400 parking spaces, bike lockers, restrooms, water fountains, changing facilities, a kiosk for the sale of metro, bus, and airport transfer tickets, covered areas to protect passengers from inclement weather, kiss and ride passenger drop-off facilities, parking for ridesharing, and a small café.
“The new Intermodal Transportation Station planned for downtown Falls Church will help connect the City and its residents like never before, providing everyone from cyclists to pedestrians better access to public transit. I was pleased to include over one and half million dollars in the bill that will go towards the construction phase of the project. Upgrading the region’s transportation infrastructure is one of my top priorities in Congress.”
