Hurricane Assistance
Millions of Americans were struck by the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, Rita and Wilma. Here are resources if you are interested in joining the relief effort.
Volunteer Assistance:
Local Red Cross Chapters are in the process of deploying volunteers to the regions affected by Hurricane Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
Alexandria Chapter: (703) 549-8300
Arlington Chapter Headquarters: (703) 584-8400
Fairfax/Falls Church Office: (703) 964-0004
How Federal Employees Can Help:
The Office of Personnel Management is establishing an emergency program to allow federal employees to donate their unused annual leave time to help fellow workers affected by Hurricane Katrina. Individual agencies have been given the authority to set up leave transfer programs and can approve leave donations. While many agencies are working to determine specifics about the program, employees who wish to donate annual leave must fill out this form (http://www.opm.gov/Forms/pdf_fill/opm1638.pdf) and submit it to their agency’s human resources office.
