WASHINGTON – By
a voice vote, an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the
U.S. House of Representatives today passed legislation introduced
by House National Parks Subcommittee Chairman Steve Pearce
(2nd District, NM) which reforms the National Historic Preservation
Act in order to improve the balance between historic preservation
and private property rights while enhancing cooperation between
business, preservation advocates, and state and tribal governments.

Representative Thelma Drake (R-Va.) this week introduced
the Resource Origin & Commodity Knowledge (ROCK) Act,
H.R. 6080, which would establish the Mineral Commodity Information
Administration (MCIA) within the U.S. Department of Interior.
The administration will be responsible for acquiring and
analyzing data related to the origin and uses of domestic
and international mineral commodities. Rep. Drake is Vice
Chairman of the Energy & Minerals subcommittee within
the House Resources Committee, which today held a hearing
on the ROCK Act.
