If you are experiencing a problem with a federal agency, please write or call the Congressman outlining the problem and any key details, so we can determine whether or not a staff member can investigate the matter on your behalf.

All pertinent information and claim numbers should be included in that correspondence -- such as: your Social Security number for a case involving Social Security; VA claim number for a case with the Department of Veteran's Affairs; taxpayer identification number (Social Security number if individual) for Internal Revenue Service problems, A number for INS, etc.

The Privacy Act of 1974 requires that Members of Congress and their staffs have written authorization before they can obtain information about an individual's case.

Please also be sure to include your address, home phone number, and daytime phone number (if different from home) so that we can obtain additional information from you, if necessary. Copies of any documents or correspondence that you may have from the agency involved may also be helpful.

Academy Appointments - If you are planning to apply to any one of the service academies, the deadline is in November.

Flag Orders - As a constituent of the 1st Congressional District, you can request and purchase flags to be flown over the United States Capitol. Flags can be flown on a particular day in recognition of significant event (e.g. commemoration of a town's founding; opening of a new school, hospital, library, community or senior center; establishment of a new Boy or Girl Scout troop; founding of a new VFW chapter. Please make sure you send your flag form and check at least a month in advance to allow for processing time.
