Owensboro, KY U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis (KY-02) will deliver a $300,000 check to officials at the Owensboro Medical Health System Friday, October 6th, 1:00pmCT during a brief ceremony in front of the hospital.

The $300,000 check will be used to acquire an IMRT linear accelerator for use in radiation therapies and cancer research. Funds were secured by Lewis in the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act of 2006.

“These funds will provide OMHS with remarkable new technology to better understand, treat, and prevent cancer,” said Lewis. “The linear accelerator will be an important addition for patient care within the Owensboro medical community, a region combating particularly high rates of lung cancer.”

The linear accelerator offers unique advantages in the radiological treatment of cancer tumors, matching the unique treatment and research objectives of the Owensboro Medical Health System. The accelerator includes Stereotactic radiosurgery, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, and on-board imaging to improve tumor targeting.
