Elizabethtown, KY Congressman Ron Lewis (R-KY) will present two checks totaling $190,000 during ceremonies Thursday, October 5th, 2:30pmET at the State Theater in Elizabethtown.

Lewis will first present a $150,000 check for interior renovations at the historic State Theater. Funds were secured by Lewis in the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Act of 2006.

“The State Theater is a central part of Elizabethtown's historic revitalization project,” said Lewis. “These funds will assist continued efforts to renovate the theater into a mixed use community facility and tourist attraction.”

Lewis will present a second $40,000 check to the Hardin County Drug Task Force to assist in the cleanup and disposal of methamphetamine laboratories. Funds were secured by Lewis in the Science, State, Justice and Commerce Appropriations Act of 2006.

“Law enforcement officials have been very successful in locating and shutting down methamphetamine operations in our communities,” said Lewis. “But their success has led to new costs associated with doing the job right. These funds will help pay for the cleanup and disposal of some very dangerous chemicals.”

A member of the House Meth Caucus, Lewis has secured over $1.8 million for eradication purposes over the past several years. Lewis is also the sponsor of H.R. 713, the Agricultural Businesses Security Act of 2005, legislation that would encourage agricultural retailers to increase security measures on chemicals such as anhydrous ammonia, a main ingredient used in methamphetamine production.
