» Commerce, Science, and Transportation
The Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation (CST) was established in 1816 as one of the Senate’s four original standing committees. Since then its jurisdiction has changed several times. Today, the Commerce Committee oversees all legislation and other matters relating to science and technology, oceans policy, transportation, communications, and consumer affairs.
» Subcommittee on Disaster Prediction and Prevention
  Committee Chair - The Subcommittee on Disaster Detection and Prevention has jurisdiction over the National Weather Service (NWS) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The National Weather Service provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States. The U.S. Geological Survey predicts and researches geological events such as landslides, tsunamis, and earthquakes. » Environment and Public Works
The Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) was first established in 1837 to oversee the development of Federal buildings. Over the years the committee's jurisdiction has grown to include legislative responsibility for the development of the Nation's interstate highway system, flood control, navigation projects, air and water pollution controls, rural and community economic development, relief from natural disasters, endangered species, and fish and wildlife programs.
» Joint Economic Committee
The Joint Economic Committee (JEC) was established in 1946 to review economic conditions and to recommend improvements in economic policy. The committee includes members from both the House and Senate who evaluate and study every major area of the economy including the federal budget, tax policy, healthcare, and international trade.
» Special Committee on Aging
The Special Committee on Aging was established in 1961 to serve as the focal point in the Senate for discussion and debate on matters relating to older Americans such as Social Security and Medicare. The committee submits its findings and recommendations for legislation to the Senate.
