Capitol
Hill Mail Service Interrupted
Enhanced
security procedures for mail delivery to
the United States Senate have been
implemented in the wake of last fall's anthrax attacks. These
procedures have resulted in a quarantine
of constituent mail sent to Senator
Snowe and other senators, and
significant delays in mail delivery are
continuing. In order to protect
Senators, Members of Congress, and those
who handle the mail, these measures will
remain in effect indefinitely. Law
enforcement officials have stated that
some mail was damaged or destroyed in
the screening and irradiation process,
meaning that some mail sent immediately
before October 15th, and in
the subsequent times, will never reach
Senator Snowe’s office.
