Last Wednesday, September 27, Congressman Scott Garrett congratulated Drew Peterson, a 12-year-old resident of Oradel, New Jersey, who was named a 2006 Davidson Fellow. The Davidson Institute recognizes 16 of the nation’s brightest young minds each year at the Library of Congress for their positive contributions to society. Peterson received a $10,000 award for his project, “Keeping Classical Music Alive,” which exhibited his outstanding piano performances.
“The dedication of this young student to his music and the brilliant talent he has exhibited are worthy of recognition,” said Garrett, “and I congratulate him on receiving this prestigious award.”
Peterson currently attends the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division, carrying the distinction of being the youngest student ever accepted into the Manhattan School of Music Conducting Program. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as other venues across the United States and Europe. In 2005, he won the Manhattan School of Music Concerto Competition.
The students receiving awards were from across the country and all under the age of 18. The Davidson Institute for Talent is a nonprofit foundation founded in 1999 by former educational software entrepreneurs Bob and Jan Davidson. Its mission is to recognize, nurture, and support profoundly intelligent young people and it is located in Reno, Nevada.
