Congressman Scott Garrett Points to Record-Breaking Day on Wall Street as Evidence that Robust Tax Relief is Having an Effect

Washington, Oct 3 -  Congressman Scott Garrett pointed to the record-breaking day on Wall Street as evidence that robust tax relief has had an enormously positive effect on American businesses. The Dow Jones industrial average hit a new all-time intraday high, rising as high as 11,754.55 and passing its record high close of 11,722.98. Both records broken today were set on January 14, 2000.

“The robust tax relief package that I joined my colleagues in Congress in passing in 2003 has fueled a real economic rebound,” said Garrett. “These policies are allowing businesses to reinvest in their employees and their business plans, creating more jobs, more goods and services, and a thriving economy. I will continue to do all I can to return the focus to the family budget over the Federal budget, allowing hard-working taxpayers to keep more of the dollars they earn.”

“Even after the economic down-turn following the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and corporate scandals like Enron, the economy has rebounded because of the pro-growth and tax relief policies enacted by this Congress. It is obvious from today’s record-breaking Dow Jones industrial average that something is working, and it is working well,” Garrett further stated.

Garrett was honored for his pro-growth record last week, receiving several awards, including the “Hero of the Taxpayer Award” from Americans for Tax Reform, the “NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award” from the National Federation of Independent Business, the “Guardian of Worker Freedom” award from the Alliance for Worker Freedom, the “Friend of the Shareholder Award” from the American Shareholders Association, and the “Protector of Property Rights” award from the Property Rights Alliance.
