Congressman Poe's Record on Taxes
|
The current tax code is much too complex. I support revision
and simplification of the tax code, and I believe that both
the National Retail Sales Tax (Fair Tax) and the Flat Tax should
be closely examined.

H.R.8
- I am a co-sponsor of the Death Tax Repeal Permanency
Act of 2005. Americans should not be penalized for
saving money or building a successful business, and the Death
Tax repeal should be made permanent. Prior to the repeal,
many citizens faced a great burden when the time came to plan
for their family’s future because of this unfair form
of double taxation. A permanent repeal of this tax would boost
the American economy by helping businesses thrive and allowing
for increased savings. H.R. 8 has been passed by the House
of Representatives, and is awaiting action in the Senate.

of Representatives
H.R.25
- The Fair Tax Act of 2005, which I have
co-sponsored, would repeal the complex income tax structure
and institute a national retail sales tax. This would give
Americans much greater flexibility to save and invest their
earnings. A national sales tax would also ensure that those
who make their incomes through illegal and black-market activities
would pay their share of taxes when they buy cars, houses,
or any other taxable commodity.
Status: Referred to Committee
H.R.4297
- The best thing government can do is get out of the way of
the hard working Americans that make this country great. The
fewer burdens we place on small business owners and working
families the more productive our economy will be. That is
why I support the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation
Act of 2005, which extends alternative minimum tax
relief, the increased spending limit on small business expensing,
and the low rates on capital gains and dividends.
Status: Signed By President,
Public Law No: 109-222
H.R.5638
- The Permanent Estate Tax Relief Act of 2006 permanently
eliminates the Death Tax for estates valued less than $5 million.
Status: Passed by House
of Representatives

Speeches
June 23, 2005 - "Mr. Speaker, I rise today
to announce to all Americans that the Spanish-American War of
1898 has ended. It has been 107 years since the war was over
and Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders went up San Juan Hill
and we won that war. Yet 95 percent of all Americans are still
paying for it and do not even know it." -Read
