Statement Regarding the Investigation of Former Congressman Mark Foley

“I firmly believe that all public servants have an enhanced responsibility to adhere to the highest ethical standards.  The improper communications between Congressman Mark Foley and former House Congressional pages is an appalling breach of trust.  His resignation was justified and the FBI’s investigation into this incident has begun.

The leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives must explain to the American people how this incident could have possibly occurred and must take steps to ensure it will never happen again. The bipartisan House Page Board and the House Committee on Standards should conduct a thorough review of this matter in an open, accountable, and timely manner.”
