Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., the U.S. House Education Reform Subcommittee will hold a hearing on “Perspectives on Early Childhood Home Visitation Programs” in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building. This hearing will examine the Education Begins at Home Act (H.R. 3628), legislation introduced by Representatives Danny Davis (D-IL) and Todd Platts (R-PA) that authorizes state grants for the establishment or expansion of early childhood home visitation programs. Home visitation programs deliver parental education and family support services directly to parents with young children. Under these programs, parents are taught how best to support their children during their most formative early years. Wednesday’s hearing will focus on the various studies and evaluate the impact of these programs on parent-child relationships and child development. Witnesses include Michele Ridge, a Member of the Board of Directors of the Nurse Family Partnership and Former First Lady of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. # # # # # WITNESS LIST Michele Ridge Deborah Daro Ph.D. Research Fellow Research Associate, Associate Professor Center for Children
