REP. PETRI'S COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

The Committee on Transportation
and Infrastructure

The Committee on Education and the Workforce

Formerly the Public Works and Transportation Committee, and often called simply the "Transportation Committee," this panel deals with all forms of civilian transportation including those by road, air, water and rail, and also related infrastructure issues including highways, bridges, pipelines, ports, navigable waterways, the environmental health of water bodies, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine.

The Subcommittee on Highways, Transit and Pipelines, with Rep. Petri as Chairman, has responsibility for America's federal highway and transit programs, motor carrier regulation and pipeline safety issues.

The Subcommittee on Aviation has jurisdiction over aviation isues, including the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

The Subcommittee on Railroads has jurisdiction over all aspects of rail transportation, including rail safety, railroad infrastructure and Amtrak.

This committee, previously called the Economic and Educational Opportunities Committee, and before that the Education and Labor Committee, has jurisdiction over education, labor and related issues such as the Older Americans Act, Head Start, the WIC program (Infants, Women and Children), and others. Rep. Petri serves as vice chairman of this committee, as well as being a member of the following subcommittees:

The Subcommittee on 21st Century Competitivenes has jurisdiction over federal policy for all education and training beyond the high school level. A major component of this jurisdiction involves higher education issues, but also includes postsecondary student assistance and employment services. This subcommittee also considers all welfare reform programs including work incentive programs, welfare-to-work requirements, and childcare services, including the Childcare Development Block Grant (CDBG);
