Rep. Tom Petri was honored on June 8, 2006 by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) with its annual "Hero of the Taxpayer" award at an event in the U.S. Capitol. The taxpayer advocacy organization presents awards to members of both houses of Congress who vote with taxpayers on 85 percent of the issues backed by ATR as important to taxpayers.

Congressman Tom Petri stepped off the House floor in the U.S. Capitol on May 4, 2006 to meet with Dana Krejcarek, a 7th through 12th grade physics and chemistry teacher with the Kohler School District, and a winner of the 2005 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Rep. Tom Petri visited St. Paul's Lutheran School in North Fond du Lac April 20, 2006. He spoke with a group of students in the school auditorium on the job of being a congressman. Rep. Petri frequently visits schools, social studies and current events classes to share his thoughts about Congress and what it's like to be there.

Rep. Petri visits RB Royal in Fond du Lac

On April 20, 2006, Rep. Petri toured the RB Royal plant in Fond du Lac, which manufactures brass fittings for Mercury Marine and others. He found a highly-skilled workforce, many of whom have been with the company for a long time - which may help to explain how RB Royal managed to have its all-time best year in 2005, with high hopes for this year.

Thirteen students and two chaperones from the 8th grade class of Watertown's Riverside Middle School visited Rep. Tom Petri March 15, 2006 in his Washington office. The students said they had a great time touring Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown in Virginia earlier in the week, and were enjoying seeing the monuments and other sights of the nation's capital.

On November 3, 2005, Rep. Petri test drove a General Motors prototype hydrogen car. The automaker hopes to develop the technology for an affordable production hydrogen car by 2010.

Representative Petri visited the Community Health Network in Berlin on October 13, 2005, to tour the new Surgical Care Center and see first-hand the new equipment and technological advancements that are apparent throughout the new center. On Sept. 7, 2005, Rep. Petri took part in a ribbon cutting event in Random Lake celebrating the preservation of rail service in western Sheboygan County by the Wisconsin Southern Railroad. Rep. Petri played an important role in preventing the abandonment of 37 miles of rail line by helping to arrange for its acquisition by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and its operation by the Wisconsin Southern Railroad.

Congressman Tom Petri was on hand Wednesday, March 31, to escort Wisconsin's Cherry Blossom Princess into a Senate reception honoring the princesses representing their states and countries during the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

Eighth Grade students from Riverside Middle School in Watertown met with Congressman Tom Petri Wednesday in his Washington, DC office. The students, chosen for their grade point averages and good behavior in school, visited the restored colonial settlements at Williamsburg and Jamestown in Virginia earlier this week, and are currently exploring the nation's capital.

At a Capitol Hill event March 4, Cong. Tom Petri received an award from the League of American Bicyclists in recognition of his successful effort last September to protect funding for transportation enhancements such as bicycle and pedestrian paths, downtown streetscapes, scenic highways, tourist welcome centers, historic preservation and wildlife crossings.
