San Francisco – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today as the Conservatory of Music held a dedication ceremony for its new, state-of-the art facility at the Civic Center:

“Thank you for this opportunity to welcome the Conservatory of Music to your new home. For 89 years, the Conservatory has been a critical part of our City’s musical life. As the oldest major independent conservatory of music on the West Coast, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music offers a truly unique educational experience for San Francisco’s young people.

“This state-of-the-art facility, with its beautiful performance spaces, joins the Symphony, the Opera, the Ballet, and our many museums and libraries in the heart of our City’s lively performing arts community. The Conservatory’s proximity to these treasures will no doubt enhance educational and performance opportunities for your students.

“I am proud to have secured a federal investment equipping the Conservatory in its new home and advancing its mission to conserve our musical legacy, to serve our community, and to create a vibrant future for students through an intense and highly-individualized educational experience.

“Congratulations and best wishes as you continue to provide music education for our next generation of musicians and generations to follow.”
