Payne to Hold Three Congressional Black Caucus Conference Forums

In conjunction with the 36th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Legislative Conference in Washington entitled “Changing Course, Confronting Crises, Continuing the Legacy,” Tenth District Congressman Donald Payne will chair three panel discussions.
 
 On Thursday, September 7, from 4:30 p.m. - 5:50 p.m. in Room 143-C of the Washington Convention Center at 801 Mount Vernon Place, NW,  Payne will chair a forum entitled “Reinvention and Transformation of African Americans in the Media and Entertainment Industry.” This Issue Forum will focus upon individual strategies used by African Americans to achieve success in the media and entertainment industry. Panelists include James Makawa, Co-Founder and CEO of The Africa Channel; George Moorer, Founder and CEO of BrownStone Digital, Inc.; Kae Thompson Payne, Media World Productions; and Christopher Williams, Recording Artist and CEO of Christopher Williams Productions.
 
On Friday, September 8th , from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Room 202 A of the Washington Convention Center, Payne will convene the Foreign Affairs Brain Trust on Africa, “Africa at the Crossroads: Past Lessons, Current Crises, Future Directions.” Assistant Secretary of State Jendayi Frazer of the Bureau of Africa African Affairs has been invited to speak as well as members of the African Diplomatic Corps and Members of Congress. Panelists include Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, United Nations Special Advisor on the Millennium Development Goals; Isaiah Washington, Actor; Mark Walton, The Africa Channel; Dr. Sylvia Hill, Vice Chair, TransAfrica Forum Board of Directors; Rev. Walter Fauntroy, Former Member of Congress, and Gay McDougall, UN Independent Expert on Minorities.
 
Also on Friday, September 8th, from 3 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. in Room 209-B, Washington Convention Center, Payne will hold a forum entitled “The State of African American History in Public Schools: Progress and Challenges.” Panelists include Assemblyman William D. Payne, New Jersey General Assembly, 29th Legislative District; Dr. Lillie Johnson Edwards, Professor of History, Director of American Studies and Founding Director of Pan-African Studies – Drew University; Dr. Colin D. Palmer, Dodge Professor of History – Princeton University; and Stephanie James Wilson, Deputy Executive Director, New Jersey Amistad Commission.
 
All issue forums and brain trusts are free and open to the public, but participants must secure an open admission badge, which can be obtained at the Convention Center.
