The national Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has issued a letter strongly praising H.R. 6165, the CLEAN TOWN Act of 2006 ("Communities Leading Everyone Away from Narcotics Through Online Warning Notification"). Rep. Steve Pearce introduced this legislation to help parents, teachers, and communities combat the scourge of methamphetamine through an online registry of convicted drug dealers and manufacturers. Accessible by the public as well as law enforcement, the registry would list the residential address and zip code of such individuals.

Signed by national Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury and addressed to Rep. Pearce, the letter predicts that Rep. Pearce’s legislation will help protect children in a similar manner to sex offender registries:

"Like Megan’s Law, which has successfully utilized sex offender registries to keep child molesters away from our children, this bill will enable our communities to identify pushers before they move in and thus safeguard our children. It is an important step in keeping these predators away from our children and our communities and it upholds our citizen’s right to know who is living in their communities."

The letter also praises Rep. Pearce for his efforts: "[o]n behalf of the more than 324,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, thank you for your leadership on this issue."
