STATEMENT FROM JOHN SCOFIELD, SPOKESMAN FOR THE HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE, ON THE HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE’S INVESTIGATION OF FORMER REP. DUKE CUNNINGHAM

October 18th, 2006 - -
The House Appropriations Committee has not been provided with a copy of the House Intelligence Committee’s report on the illegal activities of former Rep. Duke Cunningham, despite an Appropriations Committee request several months ago to receive a detailed briefing on the findings of the investigation.  According to published accounts, the report indicates the committee did not respond to requests for information from investigators. This is not true.  The Appropriations Committee expressed a willingness to be helpful in the investigation, but the Intelligence Committee investigator never made a specific request to speak to any current or former staff of our committee.  This is what happens when internal reports are released prematurely for partisan purposes.”
