Norton to Congratulate Dunbar and Toss the Coin as Alma Mater Gets National TV Exposure October 20, 2006 Washington, DC—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a proud graduate of Dunbar Senior High School, will return to the school for two activities today as the Crimson Tide prepares for its nationally televised football game against Coolidge Senior High School tonight. Norton first will speak at a rally in the Dunbar gymnasium (1301 New Jersey Avenue, NW) from 2 to 3 pm. During the rally, the U.S. Army will present to Arrelious Benn the jersey he will wear in January in the Army All-American Bowl, which features the top high school football players in the country in an east vs. west match. Benn is considered the best wide receiver in the country. Then at 7:55 pm Norton will toss the coin at the start of the game to be carried live on ESPNU. This is the first time a D.C. high school sporting event has been shown live on national television. Visiting the school today is in keeping with Norton’s tradition of promoting Dunbar’s excellence on and off the field. |
