Owens Announces
$8 Million Plus in Major Transportation
Projects in Crown Heights/East Flatbush
Brooklyn, NY - Congressman Major Owens announced today (August 15) that
through his efforts four transportation projects in the Crown Heights/East
Flatbush section of his district (11th CD) have been awarded funds from the
Department of Transportation for reconstruction and road safety programs under
the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21).
"These projects bring needed infrastructure renovation not only to improve
our quality of life and be ADA compliant but will also bring employment
opportunities to my constituents," Owens said.
Empire Boulevard, a major thoroughfare that cuts across both the Lubavitch and
Caribbean communities, received $5,120,000 for reconstruction of its roadway.
Two hospitals, Kings County and SUNY Downstate Medical Center each received
$836,000 and $1,170,400 went to the Brooklyn Children's Museum for construction
of intermodal facilities.
"This is a major development for Brooklyn in that it has been three years
since any federal funds have been allocated for transportation projects of this
magnitude," Owens said. "I am pleased to have been at the
forefront of pushing for these projects."
