Rep. Musgrave To Address Failings Of Endangered Species Act
Holds hearing on impacts from the Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse

Washington, Sep 15 - Today, Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (CO-04) announced she will hold an official congressional hearing in Colorado to investigate problems with the Endangered Species Act and how the Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse affects local agriculture and economic development. At the request of Musgrave, Chairman Richard Pombo (CA-11) of the U.S. House Committee on Resources attend in order to hear from Colorado residents and other experts. All media are invited to attend.

“As is the case with most species on the Endangered Species List, listing has been a hindrance to conservation efforts, not a help,” said Alan Foutz, witness during the upcoming hearing. “The Endangered Species Act is broken and it needs fixed.”

“Reform to the Endangered Species Act needs to emphasize recovery through greater involvement of local groups and private land owners rather than knee-jerk reactions that aren’t based on sound science,” said Congresswoman Musgrave.
