Musgrave Chosen As Top Lawmaker on Water Policy
Congresswoman will join select group of U.S. House and Senate members to negotiate final details of the 6-year federal water policy

Washington, Sep 14 - Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (CO-04) was chosen to be a negotiator on a select committee to resolve differences with the Senate on the Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA).

“Residents in five Colorado counties will be able to experience the benefits of this bill by simply turning on the facet and filling up their cup,” said Musgrave. “I am honored to be chosen for this post not only to work on behalf of Colorado residents, but to be a leader in water policy for the House. I look forward to getting to work so we can hammer out differences with the Senators before this session comes to a close,” said Musgrave.

Because of Musgrave’s efforts last year in this bill, $69 million was included for Colorado’s Arkansas Valley Water Conduit project that will bring safe, clean drinking water to several southeastern counties. The Arkansas Water Valley Conduit was originally authorized by Congress in 1962 with the enactment of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, P.L. 87-590. The conduit will stretch from Pueblo Reservoir to Lamar, stretching through Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero, Prowlers Counties.

The Congresswoman is the only member of the House Resources Committee to join in the negotiations besides the committee chairman, Richard Pombo (CA-11).

WRDA is passed by Congress every six years and it gives the Army Corp. of Engineers authority to create and maintain navigable channels, control floods, manage municipal water systems, restore ecosystems and manage wastewater infrastructure.
