As a mother of a United States Navy sailor, Congresswoman Musgrave
appreciates the commitment of servicemen and servicewomen, who defend America and
its founding principles around the world. Also, as a Representative
in the U.S. Congress, Marilyn has the privilege of nominating outstanding
high school students from around the Fourth District to attend
one of the five service
academies,
U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA),
U.S. Naval Academy Admissions (USNA),
U.S. Military Academy (USMA),
U.S. Merchant Marines Academy (USMMA), and
U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA).
In order to be considered as a candidate, students must meet the
qualifications and instructions listed below to submit an application to Congresswoman
Musgrave any time from January of their junior year through September of
their senior year in high school. Please note, the deadline for
submitting these materials is October

Service Academy Requirements
and Guidelines:

At least 17 years of age but not over 23 years of age by
July 1 of the first year attending the Academy.

A
citizen of the United States of America.
-
Legally
domiciled within the boundaries of the
4th
Congressional District of Colorado.

Not presently
married or pregnant.
-
Not legally
obligated to support a child.
-
Must be medically qualified by the individual service
academy.
-
Must be
physically qualified by the individual service academy.
-
Rank in upper
40% of class.
-
Minimum SAT
scores of 580/verbal and 560/math or ACT scores of 24/English,
24/reading, 25/math, and 25/science reasoning.

Outstanding
participation and performance in high school extracurricular
activities (athletic & non-athletic).
Service Academy
Instructions:

Students, not a family member, must place a request for
an application.

Complete and submit an application form
-
Write a 600-word essay explaining your reasons for seeking a
nomination
-
Request
the three evaluations forms be completed. At least one should be
from you principle or counselor. The other two may be completed
by your teachers, employer, minister or someone who knows you
well. When distributing your evaluation forms, please include an
envelope addressed to the Sterling, Colorado, office so each
individual can mail the forms directly to the Congresswoman.

Have an
official high school transcript sent to the Sterling office.
Your GPA and class rank must be included for your file to be
complete.

Have an
official copy of your ACT or SAT report sent to the Congresswoman, it
is not included on your transcript. (SAT code #4160 - ACT code
#7303)

Only
candidates who are qualified academically and whose files are complete
will be interviewed. It will be your responsibility to confirm
the status of your file, however, when your file is complete you will
be notified by mail.
