It's always a pleasure to welcome First District families to our Nation's capital, and to help them experience the historic buildings and fascinating museums that are located here.

Capitol in Spring
The U.S. Capitol is open to the public for guided tours only. The tours are conducted from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Free tickets are required; they are provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the Capitol Guide Service kiosk near the intersection of First Street SW and Independence Avenue. Ticket distribution begins at 9 a.m. daily. Please visit the Architect of the Capitol Web site for more details. In addition, you can stop by my office for free House and Senate gallery passes.

Access to the White House is more limited. Tours are available only for groups of 10 or more people, and are scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If you live in West Virginia's First District, your group can request a tour through my office. Please visit the White House Visitors Office Web site for more information.

While the Capitol and White House are likely the most popular Washington attractions, there's plenty more to see and do. The House of Representatives has created a Touring Washington, D.C. page that lists these attractions and will link you to them. You also might want to visit the Washington Convention and Visitors Association, the official tourism Web site of Washington, D.C.

Jefferson Memorial
To read the latest news from Washington and Capitol Hill, consider visiting the city's major daily, The Washington Post, or two of the non-dailies that track the workings of Congress: Roll Call or The Hill.

Finally, look here for Washington's current weather and forecast.
