Talladega Law Enforcement to Receive $4,500 for
New Bulletproof Vests
Rogers congratulates Lincoln, Sylacauga police for safety grants

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated local law enforcement officials in Lincoln and Sylacauga today for receiving matching federal funds to help purchase new bullet-resistant vests.

The grants, which are administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) at the U.S. Department of Justice, will help pay for 18 new vests between the two local agencies.

“Our local law enforcement officials deserve the best possible equipment to help protect the citizens of Talladega County,” Rogers said. “These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to help keep us safe, and I am pleased the Federal government is continuing to make these types of local investments.”

Rogers said Lincoln should receive $2,200 in funding to help purchase eight new vests, and Sylacauga should receive $2,320 to help purchase 10 new vests.

Rogers said the grants, which are applied for by local law enforcement agencies, were awarded through the Fiscal Year 2006 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, and are intended to help support efforts to increase the safety of local law enforcement.

Rogers serves on the Homeland Security Committee in Congress, and is Chairman of the subcommittee on Management, Integration, and Oversight.
