Health Care

As a member of the House Healthcare Public Affairs Team, Ginny has taken a leadership role in healthcare issues.  Florida's 5th District is home to nearly 200,000 Medicare recipients, the most of any Member of Congress.  Ginny has worked to ensure that her constituents receive the quality health care that they deserve.

Ginny has supported and drafted legislation to reform our nation’s medical liability system.  She recognizes the strain that frivolous lawsuits have placed on the quality and availability of healthcare in this country.  H.R. 5, which passed the House with Ginny's full support, reforms the medical liability system in this country by placing a $250,000 cap on non-economic damages and calls for the implementation of a set of standards to make the medical liability system more fair and reliable.

Additionally, Ginny is fighting in Congress for affordable health care, and is working tirelessly to find an answer to the rising cost of prescription drugs.  In 2003, Speaker Hastert named Ginny as the Vice-Chair of the Speaker’s Prescription Drug Action Team, a group of regionally diverse legislators charged with keeping the momentum behind the prescription drug movement in Congress.

Today, because of Ginny's efforts and the other Members of the House, every senior in American has access to Medicare Prescription Drug coverage.  Republicans in Congress have brought relief to our seniors by offering a first ever prescription drug benefit under Medicare while letting them choose a plan that best meets their individual needs.
