Welcome to Washington!
Following the events of September 11, 2001, our nation's Capital has undergone significant changes, and it continues to be a challenging time for all of us. New security measures have been set in place impacting the accessibility of area attractions. Parking is very limited, and public transportation is encouraged. Security screening at federal buildings, monuments, and museums prohibit the following items: aerosol/non-aerosol sprays, food/beverages, oversized bags of any kind, knives of any length, razors, box cutters, mace, and pepper spray. While some of these changes may be of inconvenience to you, I am confident that these new measures will help to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit to our nation's Capital.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
There is no admission charge for most of the monuments and museums, but come prepared for a lot of walking. Parking in Washington is very limited. Taxis, buses, and the MetroRail subway are available every day for transportation to Capitol Hill and the various attractions. The Metro is a safe and affordable way to get around town. The closest Metro stop to the U.S. Capitol is "Capitol South". For more information, please visit the following links:
