Thank you for your interest in the Jeff Miller Congressional Internship Program. It is always exciting for me to learn of so many college students eager to participate in American politics. While classroom learning is invaluable, there is simply no substitute for real world experience, where you not only study the material, you actually take part in the process. Things often operate differently in reality than they do in theory--especially when it comes to politics. If you have ever wondered how Congress really works and what happens behind the newspaper headlines, I want to encourage you to apply for an internship in my office. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

How do interested students apply?
Complete the online internship application. If you have any questions, please contact our Washington office at (202) 225-4136. Completed applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendation should be sent to the District Office or Washington Office.

Why do an internship with Congressman Miller?
An internship with Congressman Jeff Miller provides students with a unique opportunity to experience first-hand the American political system by working in either one of our district offices or in our Congressional office in Washington. The Jeff Miller Congressional Internship Program is an exciting and educational experience that offers broad insight into the legislative policy-making process while allowing students the chance to apply classroom learning to real Congressional work.

What type of work will you do?
As an intern in Congressman Miller’s office, you will be treated as a member of the staff. Interns perform vital office functions by assisting Congressional staff in assignments that include sorting and processing mail, constituent casework, responding to constituent requests and correspondence, assembling reference material, answering the phone, receiving/greeting visitors, giving tours, administrative support, and special projects. Much of the work you will do is actual work performed on a daily basis by other members of the Congressman's staff.

Who is eligible?
Participation in the program is open to any college or university student who is a U.S. citizen. Applicants must have completed at least one year of freshman study, and those who are residents of Florida will be given priority in the selection.

When is the deadline for applying? How long does an internship last?
We accept applications on a continual basis in the Miller office. Our office must receive an application and all other requested material no later than 60 days prior to the desired start date. Each internship generally lasts a minimum of six weeks.

What are the advantages of doing a Congressional internship?
  • Gain significant full-time work experience that can help smooth the transition from the college classroom to the workforce.
  • Receive academic credit in coordination with your college or university.
  • Spend several months living in our nation's capital.
  • Earn money and make valuable contacts while playing an active role in the political process.
