Key Transportation Projects Funded in Conference Report

Washington, Nov 18, 2005 - Congressman Jim Gerlach was instrumental in securing more than $14 million for important 6th District projects in the Conference Report on H.R. 3058, Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, the Judiciary, the District of Columbia, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act for FY '06. The bill passed the House Friday afternoon by a vote of 392 to 31.

“This is great news for the 6th District as these many important projects will improve our communities, assist our local commuters and make a lasting improvement to our schools,” Rep. Gerlach explained.

The conference report included funding for the following initiatives:

• $4 million toward the proposed Schuylkill Valley Metro Commuter Rail project;
• $5 million toward the widening of Route 10 in New Morgan Township to provide access to new commercial and residential development;
• $2 million for the construction of the new train station in Paoli;
• $1.3 million total for the Berks Area Reading Transit Authority;
• $1 million toward the construction of a new train station in Coatesville;
• $400,000 for the extension of River Road in Reading;
• $250,000 for Cabrini College to expand its multi-faceted community outreach programs in Norristown;
• $200,000 for the Berks Community Foundation community revitalization initiative.
• $200,000 toward the construction of a new multi-purpose facility at the Pine Forge Academy;
• $200,000 for Our City, Reading, Inc. to use for its one going affordable housing program.
