NFIB honors Rep. Gerlach as "Guardian of Small Business"

Washington, Oct 7, 2004 - The nation’s largest small-business group today named Rep. Jim Gerlach as a “Guardian of Small Business” for his outstanding voting record on behalf of America’s small-business owners in the 108th Congress.

“I’m honored to be recognized for my pro-business voting record during the last two years,” Rep. Gerlach said after accepting the award. “And I will continue to look out for the needs of our small business owners.”

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) voting record tallies 12 key small-business votes in the U.S. House of Representatives taken during the 108th Congress. The issues range from tax relief and affordable health care to liability and regulatory reform. NFIB highlighted Rep. Gerlach’s key votes for the passage of the Small-Business Health Plans, a permanent end of the death tax and the Jobs and Growth Act of 2003, which accelerated the income-tax cuts enacted in 2001 for all taxpayers and included key tax provisions for small businesses.

“Small-business owners pay close attention to how their elected representatives vote on the issues affecting their businesses and stand by those who stand by them,” said Jack Faris, NFIB president and CEO. “Rep. Gerlach is a stalwart champion of small business, having stood strong on key small-business votes in the 108th Congress. This award conveys our appreciation for supporting the NFIB pro-growth agenda for small business.”

The NFIB is the nation’s largest small-business advocacy group. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, NFIB represents the consensus views of its 600,000 members in Washington and all 50 state capitals.
